TATAK EDSA 25: PILIPINO AKO. AKO ANG LAKAS NG PAGBABAGO PILIPINO AKO PILIPINO affirms pride in citizenship. Citizenship implies responsibility. AKO is a first person declaration. It is a declaration of authorship and ownership. When one declares PILIPINO AKO, one stands up for one’s country. It is a willful, voluntary act of stepping up and owning one’s personal responsibility in nation-building. AKO ANG LAKAS NG PAGBABAGO AKO is a force of One. When each of the ones that make up a nation of 100 million stands up to be counted, we have the force “LAKAS” of One Nation, One People. This is the force of voluntarism, of self-sacrifice converging into collective sacrifice for country and people. EDSA is about PAGBABAGO: change, revolution and transformation. TATAK EDSA is the unique brand of Pinoy People Power. It is the Filipino people’s singular contribution to global democracy – HANDOG NG PILIPINO SA MUNDO. EDSA was the spark that changed the world. After the Filipino people demonstrated the possibility of peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy, other countries and peoples followed: South Korea, Poland, Romania and today, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, and Yemen. This global movement led to the historic collapse and dismantling of the Berlin Wall. As we rally our people behind the theme, we will also propagate the spirit of EDSA globally. This is the rationale of the proposed theme; TATAK EDSA 25: PILPINO AKO. AKO ANG LAKAS NG PAGBABAGO.
