Providing a decent standard of living for that huge population is not easy, and it will take a lot of time.

Because they got into the Democracy game so late. Time will give India one of the highest standards of living of any nation. Over the past 50 years (since becoming a republic) they’ve made great strides in joining the older democratic republics as the western nations. Now they just need to continue to overcome the foolish traditions of their fathers (Hinduism, Caste system, etc.) They’ll get there, and when they do, they’ll change the world!
Their GDP is rising, personal income is up substantially, and they are striving for greatness. Like Mexico, they need to shed themselves of their old roots, and create their own future.

biggest democracy yes, but 98% of the people in the lower house of parliment have major criminal records, we have a great system, its just the wrong people leading us, and it stays that way because people are too uneducated to vote for the right person, thus you have a cycle of bad leaders. For example sonia ghandi won the elections, and because the public was uneducated she was forced of her seat because of her italian background, and then parliment( criminals) had power to replace her without holding elections once more, and they picked the whip, mahn mohan singh.

India is a work in progress after many years of monarchy rule and then chaos created by assassinations of valuable leadership by different sects. People who are hungry will always be on the fringe of illiteracy and superstition because they are working for food and education goes on the back burner. Families are not emphasized enough to build a country a focus must be on it’s internal working locally in each community and not on it’s central government. There have also been multiple natural disasters which are beyond the control of India’s leaders.

Just because you are a democracy doesnt mean you are automatically bumped up to a tier 1 nation. India has a huge population who unfortunately right now is being used by countries like the US and European nations for their technology outsourcing. Those jobs are being outsourced to countries like India because the wages they have to pay are so minimal. The country needs to stay true to their democratic roots but become more socialist and communist in forming an economy that will increase the nations GDP and then allow for more capitalist ventures to take over thus getting it out of its thrid world state of affairs…

Their socialism holds them back. It takes months to start a business there, compared to minutes. Weaker property rights. Caste system. Poor education of women. Any female working and making $700 a year, she gets death threats in some of the rural areas.
God bless them. If they ever cut back on their Commie customs, more than the current 10%, they will buy us out.
Illegal alien Americans will be driving their taxis, and nannying their kids.
There are already 300 million educated people who speak the King’s English, right now. If unleashed by more capitalism, they will rule us.
