If Democracy fails to click on USA, how can one expect it to work on other nations of the world?

For at least 12 years we’ve been hearing Americans complaining about the way in which their Presidents got elected. Election frauds, irregularities, stupid voters, false promises etc. and what not.

In so many ways, the USA is the no. 1 nation of the world, and many people look at it as having the best democracy in the world.

Yet that democracy has failed to produce results satisfying to a clear majority of the US population for at least 3 consecutive times.

What’s up? Is democracy really the best and most compatible form of government for the present world?

This is such a great question. We now have democratic elections going on all over the world and it has caused riots, hate and anger. Look at the elections in Zimbabwe and Iran. I know I am going to get a lot of hate for saying this, but Americans are so vein that they think that whatever they have, the rest of the world needs it too. Other types of government work for people just as well.

Ah, we’re always bickering. It’s our right. Deep down we’re happy. Or, at least, most of us are happy half of the time.

    Churchill summed it up well:
“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.”

wrong. We are a Republic, not a democracy. There is a difference

If you look at the definition:=&aqi=g10

    And then Democracy:

They are similar, they both use elected representatives, but they are different. I guess we could also be called a Democratic Republic, but we are more a Republic than a Democracy

  8. Global Warming Controversy

Actually Obama won by a majority, 52.9% of the vote.

Bush had less than 50% of the vote in 2000 and 2004.

In Afghanistan, Bush would have been in a run-off election, though we do not have that system here. Though we seem to be enforcing it there.

The definition of a republic is that the head of state is not a monarch and the people (or at least part of the people) have an impact on the government.
Since we now have Universal suffrage, women got the vote in 1920 and African-Americans were guaranteed the vote in 1963, we are a republic that practices democracy.

Well you might actually be surprised… somewhat…

I believe the whole problem with democracy in the USA is simply that the US is massively lacking in good character among the people.

In a democracy almost everything is simply a product of the people. Bad people, bad nation.
Really it’s funny to hear all of the complaints america manages to lodge over what is really, america itself. We just don’t realize it… yet…

So, not sure, but it is possible that there are countries out there with much higher average character. So in that scenario a democracy could work much better than hear in the US.

  10. World Democracy Now

Democracy will exist with and without America, like it or not….America is a result of Democratic ideas, not the other way around.

  11. World Democracy Now

What do you define as a “clear majority?”

Obama won by 7%. When Bush won by 2% they called it a “mandate.”

There will always be unsatisfied people, but the majority rules (at least most of the time–see 2000).

And Democracy has not “failed to click;” it’s been going along fine for quite a while now.

“No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” –Winston Churchill

actually we are a republic, and the main reason is corruption through money. As it is in every other country in the world. There are hands in pockets that have paid to fund campaigns and get men elected.
maybe they belong to unions, teachers, pharma, religion, oil, or guns. those needs must be met. and if a massive change to the status quo is attempted, a bill that falls to the tax payer, and will see a lot of corruption along the way.
People will not want to change it. People will not see a progressive vision.
Democracy would be a very good system, but the people generally are only represented by 2 parties and the greed takes over the common sense.

The US has no business getting involved in others business if that’s what you mean, but yes, for us, the USA democracy is the best, but, then again, yeah, we got issues!

12 year? Wrong, try all of history. People have opinions, and are aloud to voice them.

Your going to get a lot of BS answers here, but i’m only going to give you facts, no opinions.

The reason the US has been less successful then it has been in the past, is because it is swerving away from its roots. The US was not, and is not a Democracy. It is a Republic Democracy. It takes pieces of both. The biggest parts taken are (from democracy) a public right to choose. And from the Republic end, power to the numbers, not to an individual. Now, don’t miss understand me. Most Republics have a ruler (The Republic of China for instance). That part was left out. The power is in the senate. And no, the President is not a ‘ruler’ or at least he’s not supposed to be. The US was founded, with separation of powers. The President is supposed to have the least amount of power out of the branches. Mainly he’s supposed to be a figure head. Post WWII, the president has been taking more power, along with most other politicians. Along with this, the US has been starting to lean more to the Democracy side of things. Again, don’t get me wrong, it would be bad if they started leaning too far to the Republic side of things too. It’s supposed to be balanced. That is the way it was made to work. Like a machine, it only works one way. When you start changing how it runs, (like adding extra operations to a machine) it stops working properly.

Politicaly there is what some refure to as the pendulum. When one person steps into the spotlight, the people anylize him. When this starts, you have a major majority to that person. As time goes on, especialy with Presidents, they get more extremist prone, and so do those who follow them. Then the people begin to get closer to splitting 50 50. Soon after that, chaos comes, and anarchy follows. That’s when things start over.

OK, time to take the thumbs down.

We have never been a democracy even in accordance with the constitution. We have been sold the false ideas of being a democracy which is something that some of our founding fathers have warned us of such as Thomas Jefferson. Remember that they butchered what he wrote and what John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin were so heavily in favor of. We were a republic. It operates similar to a democracy, but in the end the only thing that were got to choose was a representative to make his or her own judgment calls in hopes that they would listen to us.

So as of now we are not at all stable enough to spread our form of government around.

Democracy would be an infallible form if we ever get the chance to initiate it for real.

  17. Sentient World Simulation

It works as well as the people who are involved and care make it work, Its not perfect because people are not perfect, it never will be, its still the best thing going, and will work in other places if their people are willing to make it work, if they can’t and if we can’t its no ones fault but theirs (or ours). Scandinavia might be a better example of great democracies (or rather republics) at work.
